Murdered Jewelers’ Son and Daughter-in-Law Conspire to Claim $8 Million Inheritance

AUSTIN, Texas – “Dateline” and “48 Hours” are scheduled to air episodes on the murder of a wealthy Austin jeweler 5 years after the tragic event occurred.

On March 2, 2018, Ted Shaughnessy was fatally shot in his home, while his wife, Corey Shaughnessy, survived the attack. The couple owned and operated Gallerie Jewelers in Central Austin.

The tragedy unfolded when intruders entered their home, leading to the death of Ted Shaughnessy. Authorities later accused their son, Nicolas Shaughnessy, and his wife, Jaclyn Edison, of orchestrating the shooting.

The case revealed startling details about Nicolas Shaughnessy and his relationship with his parents. Born in Russia, he was adopted by the Shaughnessys and had a fascination with finance and money. After secretly marrying his high school sweetheart at 18, the couple moved to College Station.

Months after the murder, Nicolas and Jaclyn moved back in with Corey Shaughnessy before their arrest. Following their arrest, Gallerie Jewelers was closed but later reopened with Nicolas in charge.

Further investigation into the motive behind the murder uncovered that Nicolas Shaughnessy owed his mother money and that he and Jaclyn hatched a plan to benefit financially from their parents’ deaths. They aimed to gain $8 million through their parents’ killing.

Additional revelations included their attempt to hire hitmen for the murder, leading to arrests and subsequent prison sentences. Despite the evidence against her, Jaclyn Edison received a surprising 10-year probation sentence.

The story took an unexpected turn when Nicolas Shaughnessy expressed regret from prison, accepting responsibility for the killing and expressing a desire to repair his relationship with his mother.

Both “Dateline” and “48 Hours” will air episodes about the case and will be available for streaming after the original broadcast.
