Woman Killed In Alligator Attack At Lake Kissimmee

LAKE KISSIMMEE, FL – A woman tragically lost her life after being attacked by an alligator in Lake Kissimmee on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred near the mouth of Tiger Creek, where the victim was accompanied by a male companion at the time of the attack.

Authorities, including the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), quickly responded to the scene. A helicopter from the Sheriff’s Office spotted the woman’s body floating in the lake, and FWC officers recovered her remains. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Details surrounding the attack remain sparse. Officials have not released the identities of the couple involved, and the circumstances leading to the incident are under investigation. The FWC is collaborating with biologists to determine what might have provoked the alligator.

While the medical examiner will officially determine the cause of death, investigators are actively searching for the alligator responsible for the attack. Gunshots were heard in the distance as the search for the reptile continued.

FWC has deployed statewide nuisance alligator trappers to locate the alligator involved. This incident bears resemblance to a previous attack in March when a kayaker was bitten on the arm in nearly the same location.

Once captured, the alligator will be examined to see if any human tissue or clothing is found in its stomach, which will be crucial to the investigation. This process is part of standard protocol following such incidents to confirm involvement.

The tragic event has raised concerns about safety in the area, prompting authorities to remind the public to exercise caution in habitats known for alligator presence. The investigation continues as officials work to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
