WEST VALLEY CITY, UT – A neighborhood came together to protect a young boy from a terrifying situation involving his mother. Residents in the area took swift action last Saturday when they found a seven-year-old boy in distress, bleeding and seeking help after a harrowing escape from his home.
Debbie Allen, a local resident, recounted the alarming scene. She noticed blood on her door and a frantic plea from the boy, who claimed he was trying to flee his mother. The child reportedly told neighbors his mother had attempted to harm him with a statue and tried to drown him. Allen immediately contacted authorities, while another neighbor provided aid to the injured child.
The situation escalated when the boy’s mother, identified as 35-year-old Patrice Gustafson, also known as Patrice Garcia, entered Allen’s home unclothed. Neighbors were left in shock as the woman was arrested by the police shortly thereafter. The boy sustained head injuries, requiring staples, but has since been discharged from the hospital.
Allen expressed relief over the child’s survival, emphasizing the community’s commitment to protecting its children. She reflected on the incident, thankful that the boy is safe, and affirmed her willingness to protect any child in need.
Gustafson is currently in custody, facing charges of aggravated child abuse, burglary, and disarming a police officer. Her legal troubles are not new; earlier this year, she pleaded guilty to charges related to drug offenses and obstruction of justice.
The incident has left the community shaken, highlighting the importance of vigilance and community support in safeguarding vulnerable individuals. Neighbors remain grateful for the boy’s survival and are hopeful for his recovery and future well-being.
