Truck blast damages 4 homes, injures 1, police launch investigation

ADDISON, IL – A tranquil Saturday morning in Addison turned chaotic when a truck explosion sent debris flying into homes and injured the driver. The unexpected blast created a scene of destruction, though fortunately, no severe injuries were reported.

At around 8:30 a.m., a surveillance camera captured the moment a truck exploded on Wood Dale Road. The force of the blast damaged four homes and led to the road being shut down for several hours, as emergency responders worked to handle the aftermath.

Rock Foreman, a local resident, described his shock upon learning that debris had hit his house and car. “It’s not a call you want to get,” he said, relieved that his family, who were home at the time, were safe.

Another resident, Angelo Sorci, initially couldn’t pinpoint the source of the loud noise he heard. It was only after receiving messages and checking social media that he understood the scale of the incident.

The driver, who suffered minor injuries, was hospitalized. Police suspect the explosion stemmed from a leaking propane tank. The truck, a rental from Penske Truck Rental, was being used to transport personal belongings.

Penske has launched an internal review, emphasizing that hazardous materials are not allowed in their rental trucks according to their agreements. In the meantime, cleanup operations are underway, with crews working to repair the damage.

Homeowners were thankful that the incident didn’t result in more serious consequences. A resident noted the truck’s impact had pushed it into a neighbor’s house, narrowly missing someone inside.

Authorities evacuated the most damaged home due to safety issues. The incident left the usually peaceful neighborhood in turmoil, as investigators continue to probe the cause of the explosion.
