Back-to-Back Crashes Turn Intersection Into Chaos

NORRISTOWN, PA – A tragic day unfolded in Norristown on Thursday as a series of car accidents at a notorious intersection led to one fatality and sent two others to the hospital. The dangerous junction of DeKalb Street and East Basin Street, already known to locals for frequent incidents, saw two serious crashes within a span of six hours.

The first crash occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. when a family of three attempted to cross East Basin Street. Their vehicle was struck by a car traveling northbound on DeKalb Street. The collision resulted in the death of a man at the scene, while a woman and child were rushed to the hospital with injuries.

Angela Disanto, a resident who witnessed the aftermath, described the scene as devastating, particularly noting the distress of the young child involved. “It was quite upsetting because it was a little baby crying,” she recounted.

In an unfortunate twist, another crash transpired at the same location just hours later. A car traveling on DeKalb Street collided with another vehicle trying to cross or turn onto DeKalb from East Basin Street. Neighbors, already shaken by the morning’s events, rushed to offer assistance once again.

Leroy Bonaparte, whose niece was involved in the second crash, expressed relief that there were no severe injuries this time. However, he emphasized the need for urgent action to address the dangers posed by the intersection. “Something should be done as far as parking is a concern, and then the rate of speed that people are traveling,” he stated.

Residents of the area have long been aware of the hazards at this intersection. Despite the presence of a traffic light just a block away, speeding and a blind spot created by parked cars contribute to frequent accidents.

Norristown police are continuing to investigate both incidents. At this stage, it remains unclear whether any charges will be filed. The tragic events of the day have left the community calling for improvements to the safety measures in place at the intersection.

As the investigation unfolds, the community mourns the loss of life and hopes for swift action to prevent future tragedies.
