Norfolk Crash: Car Ignites After Colliding with Amazon Truck

NORFOLK, VA – An Amazon delivery truck narrowly avoided crashing into a home on Lafayette Boulevard, sparking new concerns among residents about speeding in the area. The incident, which occurred around 2:30 p.m., involved a two-car collision that left neighbors demanding action from city officials.

Albert Lewis, the homeowner, was out with his wife when a neighbor alerted him to the crash that ended on his front lawn. “It was just inches from my door, where I usually work in the yard,” Lewis said, reflecting on the close call.

The crash unfolded when the Amazon truck attempted to cross Lafayette Boulevard and was struck by a speeding black Mercedes. Witnesses reported the sound of the impact was akin to an explosion, as the force of the collision spun the truck around and propelled it into the driveway.

Charles Adams, a resident who witnessed the event, described the scene as chaotic. The black sedan caught fire, prompting Adams to act quickly in extinguishing the flames before emergency responders arrived. The Amazon van came to a halt just a short distance from Lewis’s home, leaving a trail of debris, including a damaged street sign.

“This could have been a lot worse,” Lewis remarked, expressing relief that no one was injured. Both he and Adams noted that speeding is a frequent issue on this stretch of road, which they refer to as the “Lafayette Motor Speedway.”

Residents are calling for immediate measures to address the speeding problem. Suggestions include installing speed tables or increasing police presence. “We hope this crash leads to change,” Adams said. “It’s a miracle no one was hurt this time.”

Despite the lack of consistent enforcement, the community is urging drivers to slow down. “You can’t live with yourself if you hurt someone by driving recklessly,” Lewis added.

Norfolk police have confirmed that an investigation into the crash is underway, but residents are anxious for swift action to prevent future incidents.
