Houston Police Hunt for Suspect in Robbery of Elderly Man Using Walker

HOUSTON, TX – Houston police are actively searching for a suspect captured on surveillance footage assaulting a 74-year-old man using a walker. The incident, which occurred at a convenience store near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Yellowstone, left the victim, Juan Arandarez, with only $6 stolen.

Arandarez, reflecting on the attack, expressed gratitude for the existence of the video, which he believes could lead to justice and prevent future incidents. The footage, released by authorities two weeks after the event, shows a younger man approaching Arandarez, grabbing money from his shirt, and knocking him to the ground.

The elderly victim, who had been on a routine trip to buy lottery tickets, was caught off guard by the sudden attack. “I thought there was no video when I left the store that day,” Arandarez shared, recalling the ordeal.

Despite not sustaining serious injuries, Arandarez was unable to defend himself due to medical issues. The suspect’s nonchalant departure, as if nothing significant had occurred, further unsettled him.

Houston police have reported a few calls from the convenience store in recent months, but none as violent as this assault. The incident has sparked concern among locals, with many questioning the actions of the younger generation.

Arandarez remains hopeful that the video will lead to the suspect’s identification. “Even if it’s a small amount of money, he should be held accountable,” he said, emphasizing the importance of preventing future crimes.

Authorities are urging anyone who recognizes the individual in the video to contact them. Crimestoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

With limited details about the suspect, police are relying on public assistance to solve the case and bring peace of mind to Arandarez and the community.
