PINSON, AL – A local high school is in mourning after a tragic shooting at an outdoor gathering claimed the life of 18-year-old Kimber Mills and injured three others. The incident unfolded just after midnight on October 19 at a spot known as The Pit outside of Pinson, authorities reported.
According to investigators, a heated argument escalated into physical violence when 27-year-old Steven Tyler Whitehead allegedly discharged a firearm into the crowd, striking Mills and others. The senior from Cleveland High School was critically injured and later died in a Birmingham hospital on Wednesday following complications from her wounds.
In response to her death, law enforcement officials have intensified their charges against Whitehead, initially booked for three counts of attempted murder, now faces a murder charge. He remains detained as the inquiry proceeds.
