BAKERSFIELD, CA – A local man is in custody facing multiple serious charges after allegedly killing his 71-year-old father amid a heated argument over money earlier this month.
Alfred Juarez Jr., 49, was arrested and is now without bail in the Kern County Jail. Authorities charged him with murder, elder abuse resulting in great bodily injury, robbery, and carjacking following the incident that resulted in the death of Alfred Juarez Sr. The court set Juarez Jr.’s arraignment for October 27.
The tragic event came to light when police received a distress call around 6:30 p.m. on October 13 from the 6100 block of Chandler Way about an unresponsive man. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Juarez Sr. deceased, showing clear signs of physical assault.
Further investigations revealed disturbing details. Home surveillance footage appeared to show a grim sequence where Juarez Jr. follows his father out of the house, bursts through the screen door, and strikes him in the head. Shortly after the assault, Juarez Jr. reportedly spun his father around, snatched the car keys attached to his belt, and sped away in the victim’s car after Juarez Sr. collapsed.
The subsequent arrest took place in Los Angeles County. During questioning, Juarez Jr. purported that he visited the home to collect a supposed $5,000 debt from his father. According to detective records, following a confrontation, he admitted to forcibly taking the keys and re-entering the house with the intent of concluding his violent actions.
Juarez Jr. allegedly knew about his father’s compromised health which included previous heart attacks, yet his remorse over the incident seemed minimal. He seemed to acknowledge the severity of his actions during the police interrogation.
This incident wasn’t the first violent encounter between the father and son. Police records note that a similar altercation in 2020 resulted in Juarez Sr. having a heart attack after being assaulted by his son.
Currently held in Kern County, the case against Juarez Jr. continues to develop. While he remains jailed awaiting further legal proceedings, the investigation into his father’s death and the motive primarily linked to the claimed financial dispute is ongoing.
