WICHITA, KS – A quiet Wichita community was plunged into turmoil early Friday morning when a former television news anchor was arrested, accused of fatally stabbing her 80-year-old mother in what she claimed was self-defense.
Authorities received a distressing 911 call just before 8 a.m., leading police to a residence on the 1500 block of East Crowley. There, they encountered Angelynn Mock, 47, visibly distraught outside her home. Inside, Anita Avers, Mock’s mother, was found critically wounded and later pronounced dead at a local hospital due to multiple stab wounds.
Mock, who was arrested at her home, later told operators that the lethal act was in response to a threat against her own life. Following her immediate medical evaluation, Mock was detained at the Sedgwick County Jail with her bail set at $1 million, facing charges of first-degree murder.
