Seminole Woman Faces Attempted Murder Charge After Alleged Knife Attacks on Husband in Domestic Dispute

SEMINOLE, FL — A Florida woman was arrested Tuesday morning, charged with attempted murder following a violent altercation in her Seminole home where she allegedly attacked her husband multiple times with a knife, according to local authorities.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the disturbance call just after 8 a.m. at a house on Tara Cay Court. Upon arrival, they found the woman’s husband outside their residence, wearing a bathrobe and nursing a bleeding forearm.

The initial investigation revealed a chilling sequence of events that began around 5 a.m., when the woman, identified as 58-year-old Karen Ruth Dedert, reportedly woke her husband to inquire about the whereabouts of their son. The conversation swiftly escalated as Dedert expressed a desire to sacrifice and kill both her husband and their son.

Police reports indicate that shortly after the threatening conversation, Dedert armed herself with a large knife and attempted to stab her husband. He managed to disarm her, subsequently locking himself in a downstairs bedroom to evade further conflict.

The altercation did not end there; after several hours of seclusion, the husband ventured out to take a shower, believing the situation had defused. However, Dedert ambushed him as he exited the shower and entered the kitchen, wielding another knife. During this second attack, she attempted to stab him in the abdomen. He deflected the blade but not before sustaining a cut to his arm.

Throughout the ordeal, Dedert is reported to have made multiple threats against her husband’s life as they struggled over the knife, culminating in his escape from the house and a subsequent call for help.

When law enforcement arrived, they found Dedert still in the residence and arrested her without further incident. Initially, she refrained from speaking with detectives but later made a vague remark about the clothes she had worn during the attack.

Dedert faces charges of first-degree attempted murder with an enhancement for domestic violence. She was held at the Pinellas County Jail without bond, which was later set at $100,000 during a subsequent court appearance. Conditions of her potential release include wearing a GPS monitor and refraining from contacting her husband. She is also granted a supervised return to the residence to gather personal belongings, as detailed in court records.

The victim suffered injuries that were serious but not life-threatening. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the situation, reviewing evidence from the scene as they work to piece together the details of this domestic dispute turned violent.

This incident underscores the unpredictable nature of domestic violence, which can escalate rapidly and dangerously. Authorities remind the public of the importance of reporting any signs of domestic discord to prevent such dangerous outcomes.
