Halloween Horror: Two Teens Dead, Another Charged Following Shooting at Chula Vista House Party

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A Halloween party took a tragic turn in Chula Vista when gunfire led to the deaths of two teenagers and the arrest of another on multiple felony charges. The incident, involving more than a hundred guests, escalated from a festivity to a horrifying crime scene late Saturday night, authorities said.

Eighteen-year-old David Garcia, a local resident, was arraigned Wednesday, pleading not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder after the violent confrontation that fatally wounded 15-year-old Kane Roldan and 17-year-old Elias Yanez. The San Diego County District Attorney’s office stated that Garcia faced additional charges, including negligent discharge of a firearm and carrying a loaded gun in public.

Details provided by police indicate that the suspect arrived at the party armed and allegedly showcased the gun at his waist during the evening. The night turned chaotic when Garcia, reportedly trying to disperse a heated exchange, fired his weapon into the air. The gunfire did not cease there, as the situation worsened.

Later, during a separate argument involving a friend of both deceased teens, Garcia allegedly drew his firearm again. Roldan and Yanez reportedly attempted to mediate the dispute but were fatally shot in the process. Responding officers discovered the two teenagers, gravely injured, shortly after 11 p.m.

Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency crews, both young men succumbed to their injuries at a nearby hospital. In response to the tragedy, Chula Vista police swiftly arrested Garcia the following Monday, holding him without bail at the George Bailey Detention Facility.

The news of the shooting has deeply shaken the community, with many expressing their sorrow and disbelief. Local school officials have made counselors available to students, highlighting the impact on Roldan and Yanez’s peers.

A preliminary hearing is set for December 12, where further details of the case will likely emerge. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials continue their investigation, piecing together the sequence of events that led to the fatal evening.

Community leaders and residents have called for tighter security measures and stricter supervision at local gatherings to prevent such incidents in the future. The tragedy has spurred a broader discussion about youth violence and the availability of firearms among young people in the area.

As the community grapples with this loss, the focus remains on providing support to those affected and ensuring such a tragedy does not recur. The upcoming court proceedings are anticipated to not only offer justice for the victims but also to answer lingering questions about the circumstances leading up to the violence that marred what was meant to be a celebratory Halloween night.
