CORNELIUS, Ore. – A local Oregon town was plunged into chaos in the early hours of Oct. 6 when an explosion rocked an apartment building followed by gunshots, disrupting the peace of the sleeping neighborhood. Authorities swiftly responded, arresting Samuel Christian Lund, 37, on numerous charges, including attempted murder, linked to what police believe was a targeted attack steered by a domestic dispute.
Lund is accused of setting off the bomb at a residential complex on North 10th Street and firing into a dwelling. The early morning disturbance, occurring around 4 a.m., startled an elderly resident who encountered an individual clad in black near his doorway just prior to the attack. Upon closing the door, he heard unsettling sounds which culminated in a blast that sent debris flying, although, miraculously, no injuries were reported.
In the wake of the blast, authorities gathered crucial evidence, including a sighting of the suspect making a getaway on an electric bike. This detail would later align with descriptions of a similar vehicle owned by Lund, further entangling him in the case.
Investigations revealed a troubling lead-up to the attack. Lund had reportedly been sending threatening messages to his ex-girlfriend after learning of her new relationship. His texts, filled with menacing undertones and hints of tracking her down, added a layer of premeditation to the charges against him.
Lund, when apprehended by the police, maintained his innocence regarding the explosion but confessed to the threatening communications. He also admitted to possessing knowledge about explosives and revealed that explosive materials could be found in his home.
Currently held without bail at the Washington County Jail, Lund faces a court hearing scheduled for Nov. 17. This isn’t his first confrontation with the law; he previously served five years in prison for a violent assault in 2018.
Despite the severity of the incident, local authorities and detectives have assured the community that the swift arrests and ongoing vigilance mean there is no further immediate threat.
