Dayton, Ohio – A 38-year-old Ohio man has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to abducting and assaulting his 12-year-old cousin with bleach. DeMarcus Pleasure accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to one charge of abduction in exchange for the dismissal of additional charges, including kidnapping and assault.
The incident, which occurred on February 22, has generated considerable local and national attention. Authorities were alerted to the case after responding to a distress call involving a child suffering from severe facial injuries at a Dayton residence. Upon investigation, police discovered that the child had been taken forcibly from his home, physically assaulted, and then transported to another location where the abuse continued.
According to court documents, the boy was subjected to multiple physical attacks before Pleasure, accompanied by Reka Jarmon, 33, subjected him to a bleach attack, causing significant harm to his eyes and face. The young victim required emergency medical treatment but has since been on the path to recovery.
Jarmon currently faces charges related to kidnapping, abduction, and assault, with her legal proceedings still underway. The allegations against her include active participation in the assaults on the child.
During his sentencing, Pleasure expressed remorse for his actions, stating that he never viewed his actions as abduction at the time and had regarded the boy as his own son. He volunteered apologies and acknowledgments of his misunderstanding of the situation’s severity.
Pleasure’s sentence was delivered with consideration for the 243 days he had already spent in jail prior to sentencing. The judge’s decision underlines the legal consequences of child abuse and abduction, despite the familial relationships or intentions behind such actions.
This case highlights the complexities of familial abuse and its lasting impact on all involved. The victim’s family, deeply affected by the ordeal, has expressed relief at the boy’s recovery and ongoing gratitude towards the medical professionals and law enforcement agencies involved.
As the legal proceedings against Jarmon continue, the community remains focused on child welfare and the importance of swift justice in cases involving minors. The case serves as a somber reminder of the critical role that the legal system plays in protecting vulnerable children from harm. As Pleasure begins his prison term, the broader implications of the case continue to unfold, drawing attention to the need for vigilance and protective measures for children within their own families.
