Detectives say Mauryce Stubbs faces a second-degree murder charge; his twin, Markeis Stubbs, is accused of aggravated battery.
ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County deputies arrested twin brothers after a Nov. 14 confrontation at an apartment complex on Redman Street left 22-year-old Vincent Sinclair dead, investigators said. Security guards heard one gunshot and then saw several men running from the courtyard just off South Orange Blossom Trail.
The case centers on a quick sequence: a damaged door lock, an argument in the breezeway and a single round fired. The sheriff’s office says Sinclair and his roommate arrived at their unit at 1092 Redman St. to find the lock assembly broken and rooms disturbed. As Sinclair stepped outside and challenged people he believed were nearby, a shot rang out. Detectives later identified neighbors Mauryce Stubbs and Markeis Stubbs as suspects, citing witness accounts and statements gathered after the shooting. The investigation has moved from scene processing to charging decisions, with one brother jailed on a homicide count and the other accused of injuring Sinclair’s roommate during the scuffle.
In arrest records, detectives wrote there is probable cause to charge 23-year-old Mauryce Stubbs with second-degree murder with a firearm. They allege he fired the shot that struck Sinclair in the courtyard. The report says 23-year-old Markeis Stubbs should face aggravated battery after allegedly hitting the roommate in the face with a gun during a struggle near the apartment door. The roommate told investigators the blow knocked out gold dental jewelry from his bottom teeth. Security staff reported hearing the shot and then watching multiple men sprint from the area. Deputies found Sinclair critically wounded; he was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and later pronounced dead.
Detectives said the brothers, who live in the complex, were located at different places after the gunfire. During interviews, one twin identified the other as the shooter, according to investigators. The report does not list a recovered weapon, and authorities have not released surveillance images from the night of the shooting. The sheriff’s office also has not detailed what property, if any, was stolen from the apartment, beyond describing a ransacked bedroom and items reported missing. Neighbors said the breezeways around Redman Street funnel sound, making a single gunshot audible across multiple buildings.
At first appearance, a judge set a $7,500 bond for Markeis Stubbs on the aggravated battery count. Investigators said Mauryce Stubbs was booked into the Orange County Jail without bond on the second-degree murder charge pending further court review. Prosecutors will decide formal charges after reviewing reports, autopsy findings and witness statements. Next procedural steps typically include arraignment and discovery. Detectives said the case remains active as they continue to interview residents and review any additional footage.
Residents described a sudden burst of commotion on the night of Nov. 14. One neighbor said she heard raised voices and then a single sharp crack before people ran toward the parking lot. A security worker said he saw “men in dark clothing” flee through the gate moments after the gunshot. By midnight, yellow tape sealed off a stretch of the courtyard. Crime-scene technicians placed markers along a breezeway and examined a door with fresh hardware, neighbors said, as patrol cars idled under the carport lights.
As of Thursday, both brothers remained tied to the case—one held on a homicide count, the other on an aggravated battery charge—while detectives worked to fill gaps in the timeline. The sheriff’s office said additional updates would come after prosecutors make filing decisions and court dates are set.
