Orlando driver charged after mall-area road rage confrontation

Police say the dispute escalated from cutting off in traffic to a roadside assault and multiple felony counts.

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando delivery driver was arrested Jan. 3 after a traffic dispute ended in a crash and a roadside fight near the Mall at Millenia, police said. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Antoinette Evans, is accused of striking another motorist and pulling her from her car following a series of aggressive maneuvers on nearby roads.

Authorities say the case matters because it captures a rapid escalation from a routine merge dispute to a violent encounter in one of Orlando’s busiest shopping corridors. Investigators are working from arrest affidavits, witness statements and physical evidence recovered at the scene. Evans faces several charges that move the case beyond a simple traffic citation, including burglary of a conveyance with assault or battery and a felony count tied to an object allegedly thrown into an occupied vehicle. The incident adds to recent concerns over road rage in Central Florida city streets where high traffic volumes converge with limited turn lanes.

Police said the clash began when two vehicles jostled for position leaving a shopping center off Millenia Boulevard late morning on Jan. 3. Investigators said Evans claimed the other driver cut her off multiple times and laughed at her, prompting both to continue onto Conroy Road toward the eastbound Interstate 4 ramp. The vehicles collided near the ramp. After the crash, Evans went to the driver’s window of the other car. The other motorist told officers Evans punched her through the open window and then opened the door, dragged her to the grass and continued hitting her. A witness described Evans “pulling the driver out and striking her several times,” the arrest report said.

Investigators also documented an earlier exchange between the moving vehicles. The victim told officers that Evans sped past and that the back right of Evans’ car struck the front left of her vehicle before the crash. She further alleged Evans hurled a plastic soda bottle through her window while both cars were in motion; officers documented liquid on the driver’s floorboard and an empty bottle nearby. Evans told police the victim tried to kick her twice through the window before getting out and swinging, and that she pushed the leg away and held the woman down until officers arrived. A bystander pointed Evans out to responding officers at the scene. No gun or knife was reported. The exact time of the initial encounter and the extent of injuries were not immediately detailed in documents.

Records list Evans’ charges as burglary of a conveyance with assault or battery, two counts of battery and throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle stemming from the bottle. Police also issued multiple noncriminal traffic citations tied to the crash. The location sits just east of the Mall at Millenia, near the Conroy Road–Millenia Boulevard intersection that feeds onto I-4. That corridor routinely backs up on weekends and evenings, according to city traffic advisories, creating short merges that can fuel confrontations. Officers did not release the victim’s name because she is not charged with a crime. Investigators did not identify the make or model of the vehicles.

As of Tuesday, no court dates were publicly listed for Evans, and it was not immediately clear if she has retained an attorney. Police said the case file will be sent to prosecutors for a charging decision in the coming days. Officials said they are assessing nearby camera footage where available and will compile repair estimates as part of the damage assessment. Any additional witness interviews will be added to the affidavit before it is forwarded to the state attorney’s office.

Traffic flowed steadily through the commercial area Tuesday afternoon as shoppers moved in and out of the plaza. Tire marks and minor debris dotted the shoulder near the ramp, and a faint spill stain was visible where officers documented the bottle landing inside the victim’s car. “We heard yelling and then saw two cars stop,” said a shopper who declined to provide a last name, adding that officers arrived within minutes. Others described congestion typical of the post-holiday week, with delivery trucks sharing lanes with mall traffic.

Evans remained out of public view following her arrest. Police said the case stands with an arrest, a pending review by prosecutors and potential filings later this week. Officials said any update on formal charges and hearing dates could appear in court records as early as Thursday.
