OCALA, FL – A Florida woman has been charged with attempted first-degree murder following an altercation in which she is accused of slashing her boyfriend’s throat. The incident occurred in Ocala during what began as a mundane Friday afternoon of pizza preparation.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a local hospital following a distress call from Cathrin Kennedy, 35, who reported her boyfriend had self-inflicted a neck wound before driving himself to seek medical help. However, upon investigation, the authorities’ findings diverged sharply from Kennedy’s account.
At the hospital, deputies encountered the victim suffering from a severe neck laceration. Subsequent examination of the couple’s residence uncovered traces of blood in multiple rooms and a bloodied kitchen knife in the sink. Kennedy, who had blood on her right hand, claimed it came from reaching into her boyfriend’s car after he allegedly harmed himself.
Kennedy’s explanation did not satisfy investigators, who found no evidence of a knife within the victim’s vehicle, nor could she convincingly account for the blood inside their home. Contrarily, the victim relayed to deputies that after spending the morning together, a dispute erupted while making pizza. He claimed it was Kennedy who attacked him with the knife, slicing his throat subtly enough that he did not immediately realize the severity of the attack.
Realizing he was severely injured, the man claimed he managed to control the bleeding with a towel and drove himself to the hospital. He also noted that the couple had been cohabitating since Kennedy’s release from jail a few months prior.
After being Mirandized, Kennedy reiterated her version of events, stating the boyfriend had become belligerent and acted dangerously, leading to what she described as his self-inflicted wound. Despite her claims, the physical evidence led authorities to conclude the attack occurred inside the residence, contradicting Kennedy’s narrative.
Kennedy was subsequently arrested and held at the Marion County Jail without bond. Her court appearance is scheduled for February 3.
