Shocking Discovery in Frisco: Young Mother Found Dismembered Under Bed, Boyfriend Arrested on Multiple Murder Charges

FRISCO, CO – A quiet Colorado mountain town is reeling after a horrific crime scene was uncovered late last month when a 19-year-old man was charged with the brutal murder and dismembering of his girlfriend, whose body was hidden beneath their bed.

Luis Antonio Mendez Hernandez is accused of the felonious slaying of Griselda Amarilis Lopez-Racancoj, a 20-year-old mother, in what authorities have described as a calculated act of violence. Hernandez faces several charges, including first-degree murder following deliberation, first-degree murder demonstrating extreme indifference, second-degree murder, and tampering with a deceased human body.

The chilling discovery was made just after midnight on December 29, 2025. Police, responding to a report of a medical emergency at Hernandez’s Frisco residence, were instead confronted with a gruesome scene. Directed to a bedroom by two female residents, officers found Lopez-Racancoj’s body concealed in a white trash bag tucked under the bed.

During the investigation, one of the roommates recounted to police that she last saw Lopez-Racancoj on the evening of December 27, shortly before an alleged argument broke out between her and Hernandez. She also observed fresh scratch marks on Hernandez’s neck and upper abdomen when he reentered the home on December 29.

As law enforcement delved deeper, they secured a search warrant for the property. Their search yielded incriminating evidence including a bloody steak knife found in Hernandez’s closet and blood-stained pillows that appeared to have been used to smother someone.

Further actions by Hernandez raised suspicions significantly. Another roommate divulged that on December 28, Hernandez had sent text messages alluding to Lopez-Racancoj’s suicidal tendencies. However, Hernandez reportedly could not account for her whereabouts when queried by investigators.

Hernandez, when interviewed by detectives, asserted that he came home late to find Lopez-Racancoj sleeping on December 27. Later finding her unresponsive, he claimed he was too paralyzed by shock and fear of suspicion to call for help. He further posited that she might have taken her own life and suggested she might have been harassed by another individual.

More damningly, Hernandez failed to provide an explanation for his visible scratches, apart from alleging they were self-inflicted. According to court documents, instead of seeking help, he allegedly searched online for methods to dispose of a body and subsequently hid Lopez-Racancoj’s remains under the bed.

Hernandez was arrested on the day the body was found. The insights into this case, as revealed when the probable cause affidavit was unsealed, depict a meticulous collection of evidence by the detectives that led to his apprehension.

As of now, Hernandez is being held at the Summit County Jail with a bond set at $5 million. Dates for future court proceedings have yet to be announced.

This case stands as a grim reminder of the potentially lethal consequences of domestic disputes, highlighting broader issues such as the handling of mental health crises and the urgent need for educational programs on healthy relationships, especially among young individuals. Restoration of safety and trust within this close-knit community remains a priority as its residents grapple with the aftermath of this tragedy.
