One Killed, Second Man Gravely Wounded in Shooting Near Bel-Ridge

Police said two men were found wounded in separate nearby spots after gunfire erupted Monday afternoon.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A fatal shooting investigation stretched across two nearby north county locations Monday after officers found one wounded man on North Hanley Road and another on Chorman Avenue, police said.

According to investigators, Normandy police responded around 2:30 p.m. to the 2800 block of North Hanley Road for a shooting call. Officers arriving there found a man with critical injuries. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

Police said a second injured man was found not far away in the 7700 block of Chorman Avenue. He also was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. By Monday evening, authorities had not released the identities of either man, and they had not said what events connected the two locations.

The shooting drew a heavy police presence to a busy stretch of roadway near Bel-Ridge and close to the University of Missouri–St. Louis. North Hanley Road was shut down between Welsberg Drive and Carson Road while officers examined the area, looked for evidence and redirected traffic away from the scene.

Because the case involved a homicide, Normandy police asked St. Louis County police detectives in the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons to handle the investigation. Detectives had not announced any suspect in custody, and they had not publicly described a possible motive. It also was not immediately clear where the shooting began or whether both victims were struck in the same encounter.

For now, the investigation remains focused on piecing together the timeline, identifying everyone involved and determining how the two crime scenes are connected. Police said more information would be released as the case develops.
