Two More Teens Charged After Deadly Leinbach Park Shooting

Police say additional suspects face riot-related charges after a planned fight turned fatal.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Two more teenagers have been charged in connection with a mass shooting at a city park that left two teens dead and five others injured, authorities said, as investigators continue to identify everyone involved.

The new charges mark a widening investigation into a shooting that began as a prearranged fight among young people and escalated into gunfire. Officials say multiple suspects have now been identified, with several facing charges tied to rioting and inciting violence.

Police said the violence unfolded around 9:50 a.m. on April 20 at Leinbach Park, where a group of about 15 juveniles and young adults gathered after arranging a fight between two teenage girls. As tensions rose, multiple people began arguing and at least two individuals pulled out firearms. Winston-Salem Police Chief William Penn said the situation quickly spiraled out of control, adding that officers were already on the way when gunshots were reported.

Investigators said two teenage boys, identified as 16-year-old Daniel Jimenez Milian and 17-year-old Erubey Romero Medina, were killed at the scene. Five others between the ages of 14 and 19 were also shot, with injuries ranging from minor to critical. Authorities believe some of those injured may have also been involved in the exchange of gunfire, complicating the investigation.

Officials announced that two additional juveniles, identified as Greidy Mendoza-Soriano and Karissa Gamez, were charged with counts related to felony rioting. Both were charged as adults and are being held without bond. A third suspect, 21-year-old Yamilet Jimenez-Milian, was arrested earlier and charged with felony inciting to riot. Another teen suspect had previously been charged in connection with the incident.

The investigation has revealed that the confrontation was not spontaneous but instead organized in advance, drawing participants and onlookers who gathered at the park. Authorities say the crowd included individuals who intended to fight as well as others who came to watch or record the altercation. Police said the presence of multiple firearms contributed to the rapid escalation.

Leinbach Park sits near Jefferson Middle School in a residential area northwest of downtown Winston-Salem. Following the shooting, nearby schools were placed on temporary secure status while officers worked the scene. Law enforcement used drones and other tools to locate individuals who fled as shots were fired.

Authorities say the case remains active, with detectives continuing to interview witnesses, review video evidence, and determine each person’s role. Additional charges are possible as prosecutors assess evidence and coordinate with the district attorney’s office. Court appearances for several suspects are scheduled in the coming days.

Community members and officials have expressed frustration over the violence, noting that the incident reflects ongoing concerns about youth gatherings that escalate into conflict. Police said the focus remains on accountability and preventing similar incidents.

As of now, investigators say they are still working to determine how many people fired weapons and whether additional suspects will be charged. Authorities have not ruled out further arrests as new information emerges.
