24-Year-Old Shot Dead After Moving To San Antonio

Franky Garza, 24, was found shot outside a west Bexar County apartment complex.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The family of Franky Garza is pressing for answers after the 24-year-old was shot and killed May 6 outside an apartment complex in west Bexar County, days after arriving in San Antonio.

Garza was found at Sienna at Westover Hills in the 11800 block of Potranco Road. Deputies responded after a report of a sick or injured adult who had passed out. They found Garza with a gunshot wound and began life-saving measures before he was pronounced dead.

Relatives said Garza had lived in Carrizo Springs and came to San Antonio hoping to start over. Family members said he dreamed of building a business with his father and was staying temporarily while looking toward the next step in his life. His mother, Erica Garza, said the call from her son came while she was about two hours away.

“Frank said he’s been shot,” Erica Garza said. She said she could hear him struggling to breathe. The family said Garza had been with someone he had recently met and went to an apartment in the same complex before he was found in a doorway. Investigators have not said whether that person witnessed the shooting.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has not announced an arrest. Officials said detectives are working possible leads, but key details remain unknown, including who fired the shot, whether Garza was targeted and what happened inside or near the apartment before deputies arrived.

Records reported by local outlets showed the sheriff’s office had received dozens of calls for service at the apartment complex in 2026. The agency said it received 46 calls there through early May, compared with 61 during a similar period in 2025. Officials did not say whether any earlier calls were tied to Garza’s killing.

Garza’s relatives remembered him as caring, easygoing and loved by many people. His sister, Alexis Ivy, asked why the shooting happened. Erica Garza said her son “didn’t deserve this” and said the family continues to check with investigators for updates.

The case remains open as a homicide. Deputies have asked for tips from anyone who knows what happened at the Potranco Road complex on the night Garza was shot.
