CHICAGO, Ill. — A 29-year-old man was critically wounded Thursday night when someone shot him in the head at a gas station in the Pullman neighborhood on Chicago’s Far South Side, police said.
The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. in the 700 block of East 103rd Street. Chicago police said the man was getting out of his vehicle when a person walked up and opened fire. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
No arrests had been made as of Friday morning, and police had not released a suspect description. Area Two detectives are investigating the shooting. Police also had not said whether the victim was targeted or whether any words were exchanged before the gunfire.
The gas station sits along a busy stretch of 103rd Street in Pullman, a Far South Side neighborhood near major roads and transit routes. Police did not identify the business by name or say whether surveillance video had been recovered from the station or nearby properties.
Investigators were working to determine what led to the shooting and whether more than one person was involved. The victim’s name was not released. Police said the case remained open, with detectives reviewing evidence and seeking information tied to the attack.
The man remained hospitalized in critical condition after the Thursday night shooting. The next major update is expected from Chicago police if detectives identify a suspect, announce an arrest or release more details about the investigation.
