West Dallas Party Shooting Leaves Three Dead, One Hurt

Detectives said the victims appeared to be bystanders after gunfire followed a confrontation at the front door.

DALLAS, Texas — A party at a West Dallas short-term rental ended in a deadly shootout early Tuesday, leaving three people dead, one man injured and homicide detectives searching for suspects, authorities said.

The shooting was reported shortly after midnight in the 3700 block of Vilbig Road. Dallas police said officers arrived to find a crowd fleeing the property and several people suffering from gunshot wounds. The home, described by police as a large two-story house, had drawn a crowd estimated at 50 to 150 people.

Two victims, a man and a woman, died at the scene after Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived. A third victim was taken to a hospital and died soon after. Police said a fourth victim later showed up at another hospital by private vehicle. He had been shot in the buttocks and was listed as stable.

Police said the violence started when a group that had not been invited came to the front door. An altercation followed, and gunfire was exchanged between people at the entrance and people already inside the house. Investigators said the people who died and the injured man were believed to be innocent bystanders rather than the focus of the dispute.

Officers detained and questioned several people who were leaving the scene, but police had not reported any arrests Tuesday morning. Detectives also had not released the names of the victims, the number of people believed to have fired weapons or descriptions of possible suspects. Officials said those details remained under investigation.

The home sits in West Dallas, near Bayside Street and Singleton Boulevard. Police said the property was being used as a short-term rental at the time of the party. Investigators had not said whether the renter, property owner or party organizers were cooperating with detectives.

The investigation now turns on witness interviews, video evidence and physical evidence from the house and surrounding area. Detectives are expected to determine where the shots came from, how many guns were used and whether anyone detained at the scene had a role in the gunfire.

Neighbors and relatives gathered near the scene as officers worked through the morning. Police said the early moments were chaotic, with many people running from the house as patrol units arrived. The scene later shifted into a homicide investigation as detectives marked evidence and searched for people who left before officers could speak with them.

The case remained open Tuesday, with three deaths confirmed and one survivor hospitalized in stable condition. Police said more information will be released after detectives identify the victims and develop suspect information.
