Four Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Los Angeles Area

Los Angeles police said the victims included two adults, a young child and a 4-month-old baby.

LOS ANGELES — Two adults and two children were found dead from gunshot wounds Wednesday night inside a North Hills home, where Los Angeles police are investigating the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division were called around 8 p.m. May 27 to a home in the 16200 block of Londelius Avenue after a report of a shooting. Police said they were not looking for additional suspects, but officials had not released the victims’ names or a motive by Thursday.

The victims were described as a man and woman believed to be 35 to 40 years old, a child between 5 and 7 years old and a 4-month-old baby. Officers found all four dead when they arrived. Police have not said who fired the shots or what relationship the victims had to one another. Neighbors gathered near the blocked-off street and told local reporters they believed the victims were members of one family.

Video from above the neighborhood showed a large response from police, firefighters and emergency crews. Yellow police tape closed off the area as investigators worked around the home. Members of the mayor’s volunteer Crisis Response Team also responded to support people affected at the scene. The team is often called to major emergencies, deaths and other traumatic incidents in Los Angeles.

North Hills resident Undreal Turner said the deaths stunned the neighborhood. “It’s just shocking to be in our neighborhood, something that drastic and devastating in the neighborhood,” Turner said. “It’s sad. Four people lost their lives today.” Other residents said they had not noticed public signs of trouble at the home before the shooting.

The case remained in its early stages Thursday. Detectives were expected to review evidence from inside the home, interview relatives and neighbors, and work with the Los Angeles County medical examiner to confirm the identities and causes of death. Police had not announced any arrests because they said they were not seeking suspects.

Authorities had not released further details on the weapon, the order of events or any prior police calls to the address. The next public update is expected after investigators notify relatives and complete the first phase of the death investigation.
