Roseville Trucker Accused After Coworker Found Dead Under Blanket

Investigators say the victim was found covered by a blanket along a road in Dauphin County.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A Roseville truck driver was arrested in Miami after Pennsylvania authorities said his driving partner was found dead May 23 along a rural road in Londonderry Township.

Ilia Romanchenko, 25, is accused in the death of Oleksandr Hurianov, who worked with him for New Route Inc., a trucking company based in Fair Oaks, California. Authorities said Romanchenko was awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania, where the case is being handled by state police and Dauphin County prosecutors.

Pennsylvania State Police said officers were called about 10 a.m. May 23 to the 1800 block of River Road after a body was reported on the side of the road. First responders found Hurianov face down and partially covered by a blanket. Police said he had multiple stab wounds and severe head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators later connected Hurianov to New Route Inc. and determined he had been driving with Romanchenko. According to court records cited by officials, Romanchenko told his boss he had been in a fight with Hurianov and left the truck at a Royal Farms gas station in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Police said they found blood inside the truck after locating it.

Surveillance video from the gas station showed Romanchenko throwing away a plastic bag and entering the store with visible injuries on his hands, authorities said. Investigators said GPS data showed the truck had stopped near River Road before continuing to Ridley Park. The exact sequence of events before Hurianov’s death remains under investigation.

Romanchenko was arrested early the next day in Miami after authorities said he flew there from Philadelphia. Officials said he was wearing the same clothes seen in the gas station footage. The Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office said Romanchenko was suspected of trying to leave the country.

Romanchenko faces criminal homicide and other charges in Pennsylvania, including abuse of a corpse, possession of an instrument of crime and tampering with evidence. Court records show an extradition hearing was scheduled for June 10 in Miami-Dade County Court.

The case now moves through the extradition process before Romanchenko can be returned to Pennsylvania. An autopsy was performed on Hurianov, and authorities said further findings were expected as the investigation continues.
