Police said the shooting happened after the boyfriend attacked the woman inside a southwest valley home.
LAS VEGAS — A man was shot and killed early Saturday inside a southwest Las Vegas home after police said he attacked his girlfriend and was shot by her brother.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said dispatchers received a call around 5 a.m. from a woman who reported that her brother had shot her boyfriend. Officers went to a home near Torrey Pines Drive and Windmill Lane, where they found the boyfriend with a gunshot wound.
Medical crews tried to save the man, but he died at the scene. Police said the brother identified himself as the shooter when officers arrived and was taken into custody without incident. His name, the woman’s name and the dead man’s name had not been released as of Monday.
Investigators said the woman and her boyfriend had been arguing before the fight turned physical. Police said the brother heard the disturbance, went upstairs and saw the boyfriend beating his sister. After several attempts to stop the attack, police said, the brother pulled out a gun and fired.
Police described the case as an “isolated incident” and said there was no threat to the public. Everyone inside the home cooperated with investigators, police said. Detectives had not announced whether the brother would face charges or whether the shooting would be reviewed as self-defense or defense of another person.
The shooting occurred in the Enterprise area of the southwest valley, a residential part of Clark County south of the Las Vegas Strip. Police remained at the home Saturday as homicide detectives reviewed the scene, collected evidence and interviewed people who were inside or nearby when the shooting happened.
The Clark County coroner’s office is expected to identify the man who died after relatives are notified. Police had not released further details on the weapon, the relationship history between the couple or whether officers had previously responded to the home.
