Four teens were charged after Angel Mendoza was killed.
BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx playground stabbing that left 14-year-old Angel Mendoza dead and a 17-year-old boy wounded remains part of a broader city focus on youth violence and public safety.
The attack happened around 7:30 p.m. Aug. 5, 2025, at Williamsbridge Oval Playground in Norwood. Police said officers found Mendoza with multiple stab wounds and a 17-year-old with wounds to his stomach and shoulder. Mendoza was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where he died. The older teen was reported in stable condition.
Authorities said the violence grew out of a large fight linked to an earlier dispute. Investigators said several teens were involved and recovered knives while searching the area. Witnesses described a fast-moving scene in a park often used by families, students and neighborhood residents.
The Bronx district attorney’s office later announced indictments against four teens. Andrew Ansah, 18, and Jordan Williams, 18, were arraigned on murder, manslaughter, gang assault and weapons charges. Two younger teens, ages 15 and 16, were also indicted on the same charges and were scheduled for proceedings in Youth Part.
District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said the defendants “turned a playground into a killing field,” describing the case as one that devastated Mendoza’s family and shocked the community. Prosecutors said cellphone video was part of the investigation. An indictment is not proof of guilt, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless convicted.
The case was scheduled to continue with court appearances after the indictments. Prosecutors said investigators were also reviewing evidence connected to other people seen during the attack.
