The wounded driver crossed into Roswell before officers found him near Highway 92.
ROSWELL, Ga. — A Cobb County road rage investigation led to an arrest Wednesday after a wounded driver crossed into Roswell and stopped near Highway 92 with a bullet-riddled vehicle, police said.
The victim, Kenneth Taylor, 57, was shot during an apparent traffic dispute near Woodstock Road and Mabry Road, close to the Roswell city line. He remained conscious when officers reached him and was taken to North Fulton Hospital with injuries police said were not life-threatening.
Cobb County police said the incident began about 11:13 a.m. when reports came in that a driver had fired multiple shots into another vehicle. Both vehicles continued north through the intersection after the shooting. Taylor later stopped near Highway 92 and Laurel Lake Road, where Roswell police and medical crews responded.
Investigators said the case moved quickly after witnesses were interviewed and footage was reviewed through Cobb County’s Real Time Crime Center. Police tracked a gold SUV traveling toward Cherokee County and identified the driver as Bashir Beal, 47, of Acworth. Cherokee County deputies located Beal, arrested him and transferred him to Cobb County police.
Beal faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Officials have not released details about the argument that came before the shooting. They also have not confirmed the number of bullets fired, the weapon used or whether more charges could follow.
The shooting drew attention across northeast Cobb and Roswell because it unfolded along a busy commuter route. The area around Woodstock Road, Mabry Road, Highway 92 and Laurel Lake Road sits near shopping centers, neighborhoods and the county line, where several agencies became involved after Taylor drove out of Cobb County.
Police said the investigation remained active Wednesday night. Detectives were expected to keep reviewing camera footage, statements and physical evidence from Taylor’s vehicle and the roadway before sending the case forward for prosecution.
