A woman’s report led deputies to an apartment where two toddlers were later found shot.
ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County deputies are investigating after two toddlers and their father were found dead Friday night inside an apartment near South Rio Grande Avenue, sheriff’s officials said.
The response began around 6:30 p.m. after deputies received a report that a man with a gun was chasing a woman in the 4400 block of South Rio Grande Avenue. Deputies found the woman safe, but she told investigators her children were inside a nearby apartment and could be in danger.
Authorities said deputies approached the apartment and heard multiple gunshots. They forced entry and found two children, ages 1 and 2, suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies rendered aid until the children were taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The children’s father was also found dead inside the apartment. Investigators said his wound appeared to be self-inflicted. Officials did not announce any arrests and said there was no ongoing threat to neighbors after the scene was secured.
The apartment complex sits near South Texas Avenue and Rio Grande Avenue, an area that drew a large response from deputies and fire crews Friday evening. Officials had not released the victims’ names or a detailed timeline beyond the initial call and entry into the apartment.
The sheriff’s office said no more information was expected Friday night. Detectives continued reviewing the shooting and the events that led to the emergency call.
