A woman was critically injured, and police said a child and an officer were also hurt.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Police were searching Sunday for a gunman who opened fire Saturday night near Historic Stop Six Park, injuring four people during a community event on East Rosedale Street.
The shooting happened about 9:10 p.m. in the 5200 block of East Rosedale Street, where officers had responded to reports of gunfire. Police said the victims included two women, a child and an officer who was inside a patrol vehicle when a bullet struck the windshield.
Officers found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head and took her to a hospital in critical condition. Police said a child was grazed in the head by a bullet and had injuries that were not life-threatening. An older woman who was shot in the hip went to a hospital on her own and was expected to survive.
The officer was sitting in a patrol vehicle parked along the street in the direction of the gunfire when shrapnel struck him after a bullet passed through the windshield, police said. Authorities did not release the officer’s name or say whether he remained hospitalized Sunday.
Witnesses told investigators the shooter was dressed in all black and came around the corner of the park between an apartment complex and a nearby business. Police said the person fired toward the gathering and then ran back toward the apartment complex. No arrest had been announced.
The Fort Worth Police Department’s Major Case Unit was investigating. Police had not released a motive, the number of shots fired or a detailed description of the weapon. Authorities said the suspect had not been found after the shooting and remained wanted Sunday.
The park, also known as Rosedale Plaza Park, was the site of a scheduled community gathering Saturday evening. Police said officers were in the area when the shooting happened, and dozens of police units were sent to the scene after the gunfire.
Investigators asked people with information to contact Fort Worth police. Officials said they were still working to identify the shooter and gather witness accounts from the crowded area near the park and nearby apartments.
