A woman in her 70s was hospitalized after the Azalea Park shooting.
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies searched Monday for a gunman after a woman in her 70s was shot at a bus stop in the Azalea Park area and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The attack was reported just after 9 a.m. in the 1000 block of Egan Drive, near Hager Way. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the woman was waiting for a bus when she was shot by an unknown person.
The shooting left visible signs of violence at the roadside stop. Investigators documented bloodstains, bullet holes and sunglasses left near the scene. Deputies blocked off the area while they searched for evidence and tried to learn how the shooter approached and left. Sheriff’s officials had not released the victim’s name by Monday evening and had not said whether the shooting appeared random or targeted.
The search expanded later in the day when SWAT deputies focused on a nearby home. Deputies used armored vehicles, robots and a drone during the response, which lasted for hours. The scene began clearing around 6 p.m. Officials had not confirmed whether anyone was inside the home, and they did not say whether that operation was connected to the shooting on Egan Drive.
Neighbors said the shooting was alarming because it happened during the morning in a place people use every day. Jill Bowles, a longtime resident, said, “This hurts. This is very sad.” She said the neighborhood is often filled with children, families and people walking through the area. The shooting turned a routine bus stop into a crime scene as deputies moved through the block.
No suspect description had been made public, and no arrest had been announced. Investigators had not released a possible motive, the type of gun used or whether surveillance video had been recovered from nearby homes or businesses. The sheriff’s office said the investigation was ongoing and that more information would be released when available.
The woman remained hospitalized in critical condition Monday evening. Deputies continued searching for the shooter and reviewing evidence from the bus stop and nearby streets.
