CHICAGO, Ill. — A 32-year-old man was killed and three other men were wounded Monday evening when someone in an SUV opened fire on a sidewalk in the Austin neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side, police said.

The shooting happened about 7:25 p.m. in the 0-100 block of North Lockwood Avenue. Police said the victims, ages 27, 32, 34 and 36, were standing together when the vehicle pulled alongside them and gunfire struck all four men.

The 32-year-old man was shot in the face and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died. The Cook County medical examiner’s office had not released his name as of Tuesday morning. A 34-year-old man was shot in the right leg and taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition.

A 36-year-old man was shot in the right flank and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said. The fourth victim, a 27-year-old man, was shot in the right leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.

Police had not announced any arrests Tuesday morning. Investigators also had not released a description of the shooter or the SUV. The attack remained under investigation as detectives worked to determine what led to the gunfire and whether the victims were targeted.

The shooting added another homicide investigation to the West Side as officers searched for evidence and reviewed what happened along Lockwood Avenue. Police said the basic timeline was still developing, and no motive had been made public.

As of Tuesday, the surviving victims remained hospitalized and the slain man’s identity had not been made public. The next major update is expected when police announce an arrest, release suspect details or the medical examiner identifies the man who died.
