Man Shot, Girlfriend Opens Fire in Edgewood Avenue Chaos

Police said two people were shot after an argument between separate groups turned violent.

ATLANTA — A section of Edgewood Avenue reopened Wednesday morning after Atlanta police investigated a double shooting that left two men wounded and two suspects in custody.

The shooting was reported around 1:10 a.m. near Hilliard Street. Officers found one man with a gunshot wound to the chest and another with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police closed part of the street while investigators worked the scene.

Police said the violence followed an argument between two groups on Edgewood Avenue. Investigators said a man pulled out a gun before he was shot in the chest by a person from the other group. After that, police said, the man’s girlfriend chased the group and fired his gun.

That gunfire struck another man in the leg, according to investigators. Police said both accused shooters were arrested. Charges were pending Wednesday morning, and officials had not released the suspects’ names.

The large police presence remained in the area through the early morning commute. The scene cleared before 5:45 a.m. Police had not said whether any additional people were being sought or whether more arrests were possible.

Investigators were still reviewing what led to the argument, how many shots were fired and the exact roles of the people involved. Police said more information about the suspects and the dispute was expected later Wednesday.
