Mother, 17-Year-Old Son Found Dead After Harris County Shooting

A woman and her teenage son were fatally shot inside a home on Windy Spring Lane.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Deputies are investigating the deaths of a woman and her teenage son after both were found shot Tuesday morning at a home in the Riverstone Ranch subdivision southeast of Houston.

The shooting brought patrol cars, crime scene tape and homicide detectives to Windy Spring Lane as residents woke to a heavy law enforcement presence. Officials said the son, 17, died at the home. His mother died later at a hospital. A daughter who was also inside the house was not hurt.

The first reports came from the 9400 block of Windy Spring Lane, near the Pearland area. Officials said emergency crews first handled the mother’s injury before law enforcement confirmed the shooting investigation. Deputies later found the teen dead inside the house. Lt. Abraham Alanis said investigators were still trying to determine exactly what happened and had only limited details early Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office had not released the names of the mother or son by Wednesday. Investigators were looking at statements from family members, neighbors and first responders. They were also working to learn whether the shootings happened at the same time. Officials said the woman was 48, and the teen was 17. Authorities did not say whether the daughter witnessed the shooting.

Neighbors said the deaths were hard to understand in a subdivision they described as peaceful. The family was known on the block and had lived there for several years. One neighbor, Simon Macieo, said residents gathered near the scene with more questions than answers. “We don’t have any clear answers right now,” Macieo said. “What’s really going on?”

Investigators also questioned a man who neighbors said was seen walking in the neighborhood around the time of the shooting. Law enforcement sources said he had not been tied to the deaths. Detectives had not announced an arrest, and officials warned against quick conclusions while the case was still in its early stage.

Several law enforcement sources said murder-suicide was being considered, but officials had not made that determination public as a final conclusion. The Harris County medical examiner was expected to complete autopsies and issue formal findings. Detectives were expected to review any available home security footage, emergency call records and forensic evidence from inside the house.

By late Tuesday, the street had become a place of grief and uncertainty. Friends remembered the teen as someone they saw outside often. Residents said the violence was out of place in a neighborhood built around families and long-term homeowners.

The investigation continued Wednesday, with the next major updates expected from homicide detectives or the medical examiner’s office.
