Teen Killed in Greensboro Shooting as Neighbors Fear More Violence

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A 16-year-old boy was killed and another person was injured Wednesday night in a shooting on Lynhaven Drive, Greensboro police said.

Police identified the teen as Malachi Holmes. Officers, firefighters and Guilford County EMS crews responded just before 9:30 p.m. to the 3500 block of Lynhaven Drive after a report of gunfire.

Police said officers found two people with apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency crews began lifesaving efforts at the scene. One person was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Holmes died at the scene from his injuries.

Authorities have not released the name, age or condition update for the second person who was hurt. Police also have not said what led to the shooting or whether investigators have identified a suspect.

The case is being investigated as a homicide. Greensboro police said the shooting marked the city’s 13th homicide of 2026. Detectives said more information would be released later as the investigation continues.

Neighbors told WFMY News 2 the shooting added to concerns about young people and violence in the area. Some said the sound of gunfire and the sight of police cars have become a fear for families who want calm streets.
