Two others were hospitalized after the crash on Dixie Highway.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A teenage girl died Saturday afternoon after a car struck three pedestrians on Dixie Highway in Shively, police said, leaving two other people injured and sending officers to a busy commercial stretch of the city.
Shively police said officers were called about 4:30 p.m. to the 3900 block of Dixie Highway, near a Speedway between Park Road and Leroy Avenue. Sgt. Jordan Brown said the vehicle hit multiple people. The teen girl died at the scene, while a woman in her 30s and another teenage girl were taken to a local hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.
The crash drew a large response from police, emergency crews and relatives of the victims. People who knew the victims told reporters the girl who died lived nearby. Police had not released her name Saturday night, and officials had not said what led the vehicle to leave the roadway or hit the pedestrians.
Investigators remained at the scene Saturday as officers worked to document the crash area, speak with witnesses and determine the vehicle’s path before impact. Police had not announced any arrests and had not said whether impairment, speed or road conditions were being reviewed as possible factors.
Dixie Highway is one of the main north-south routes through Shively and southwest Louisville, with steady traffic, businesses and nearby neighborhood streets. The crash happened during the late afternoon, when the corridor often carries drivers, pedestrians and customers moving between homes, shops and gas stations.
The investigation remained open Saturday night. Police said more information could be released after next of kin are notified and investigators complete more interviews and scene work.
