Henrico Police said local officers assisted at the scene but did not fire.
HENRICO, Va. — A federal review is underway after an FBI agent fatally shot a man Thursday during an arrest warrant operation at Town Motel on Brook Road, officials said.
The shooting drew a large police response to the 5200 block of Brook Road and shut down nearby lanes while investigators worked at the scene. The FBI said the man died and no agents, task force members or local officers were hurt.
Henrico Police said officers were aware of the FBI operation before information about a possible shooting was relayed to dispatch. Police responded because the motel is in Henrico County, but the department said its officers were not involved in the shooting.
The FBI said the shooting happened while its team was serving an arrest warrant. Officials did not identify the man who was killed or say what case brought agents to the motel. The bureau said it had no further details to release after confirming the death.
Witnesses said the quiet stretch of Brook Road changed quickly as federal vehicles arrived. Wayne Rawlings, a motel guest, said he saw several FBI cars and heard loud sounds before gunfire. He said he had briefly seen the man and a woman the night before and did not think anything unusual was happening.
The FBI said its Inspection Division will review the shooting, which is standard policy after an agent or task force member fires a weapon. That review is expected to examine the agents’ actions, the warrant operation and the moments before the fatal shots.
Brook Road later reopened after the scene was cleared. As of the latest update, the FBI had not released the man’s name, the warrant details or a full timeline of the encounter.
