Mother and Son Shot as Kissimmee Man Dies at Scene

A woman and her 18-year-old son remained hospitalized after the shooting near Sheffield Circle.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A Kissimmee man died and two people were hospitalized after a Monday evening shooting that Osceola County deputies are investigating as a domestic-related attempted murder-suicide, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies identified the dead man as 33-year-old Garshard Shaquille Alexander Strong of Kissimmee. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said a 38-year-old woman was in critical condition and her 18-year-old son was in serious condition after the shooting.

Deputies responded at about 5:19 p.m. Monday to the 2800 block of Sheffield Circle after a 911 call reported gunfire. Investigators said they found three people with gunshot wounds. Strong was dead at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said. A nearby resident, Kassondra Buchanan, said two teens ran for help after the shooting. “They said, ‘call the cops, call the cops, my mom’s been shot,’” Buchanan said.

The shooting happened at Saratoga Resort Villas Apartments, near Kissimmee. Investigators said they believe Strong shot the woman and her son before shooting himself. The sheriff’s office said detectives were still working to confirm Strong’s relationship to the woman. Family members identified the woman as Vicky Pinkley and said Strong had been in an on-and-off relationship with her.

Buchanan said her 7-year-old son first noticed someone injured outside their apartment. She said doorbell video captured the moments after the shooting, including her call to 911 and her rush back inside to get towels. She said she held pressure on the teenage victim’s stomach while another teen helped the woman, who had been shot in the neck.

No arrests were expected because the suspected shooter died at the scene. The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains open as detectives review evidence, speak with witnesses and determine what led to the shooting. Officials had not released a full timeline of events inside the apartment by Tuesday morning.

The case remained active Tuesday, with the woman listed in critical condition and her son in serious condition. Deputies said more information would be released as the investigation develops.
