Authorities said the man entered the residence without permission and refused repeated demands to leave.
PALM COAST, Fla. — A Palm Coast mother shot a man who allegedly entered her home without permission and advanced toward her children after refusing multiple demands to leave, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened Sunday afternoon at a residence on Big Bear Lane. Deputies said the woman was home with two of her children when the man entered the house. Investigators said the suspect ignored repeated instructions to leave and remained inside the home as the situation escalated.
The mother, identified by local media as Courtney Price, told reporters she initially tried to de-escalate the encounter. She said she repeatedly ordered the man to leave and attempted to create distance between him and her children. According to her account, the situation changed when the man allegedly moved toward the children.
Price said she feared for her family’s safety and fired her weapon after the man continued advancing. Sheriff’s officials said the suspect was struck and later transported for medical treatment. Authorities have not publicly released details about the extent of his injuries.
Investigators spent several hours processing the scene and interviewing witnesses. Deputies said evidence collected inside the residence will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not announced any charges connected to the shooting.
Neighbors reported seeing a large law enforcement presence in the area after emergency crews responded. Crime scene investigators documented evidence while detectives worked to establish a timeline of events leading up to the gunfire.
Florida law provides legal protections in some self-defense situations involving unlawful entry into a residence. Investigators said they are examining witness statements, physical evidence and other records before determining whether any criminal charges are warranted.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed how the man entered the home or whether he knew the family before the incident. Those details remain under investigation.
As of Monday, the case remained active and no final determination had been announced by investigators.
