Suspect on Run After Fatal Shooting at Las Vegas Shopping Center

The victim was shot inside a business near Rainbow Boulevard and Lake Mead Boulevard.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Las Vegas police searched Thursday for a man accused of fatally shooting an employee inside a northwest valley business after asking for him Wednesday afternoon at a shopping center on North Rainbow Boulevard.

The shooting drew homicide detectives to the Best in the West shopping center in the 2100 block of North Rainbow Boulevard, near Lake Mead Boulevard. Police said the victim, a man in his 30s, died at the scene after officers and medical crews arrived.

Police said the call came in shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found the man suffering from gunshot wounds inside the business. Investigators said the suspect had entered the store and asked for a specific employee before the two men got into a physical fight. During that struggle, police said, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the employee.

The suspect fled before officers took anyone into custody. Police described him as a Hispanic man in his 20s, but did not release his name. The victim’s name also had not been released Thursday pending notification of relatives by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Investigators had not announced a motive, and police said several parts of the case remained under review, including whether the suspect and victim knew each other before the shooting. Detectives were expected to review security video, interview witnesses and collect physical evidence from the business and nearby storefronts.

The shooting happened in a busy retail area of the northwest valley, where restaurants, shops and service businesses share parking lots along Rainbow Boulevard. Police activity drew attention from drivers and customers as officers blocked off part of the area and homicide investigators worked inside the business.

No other injuries were reported. Police said the case remained an active homicide investigation, with no suspect in custody as of the latest update. Detectives asked anyone with information to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Section or Crime Stoppers.
