Wounded Man Arrested After Old Sacramento Shooting Report

Police said officers found shooting evidence near Firehouse Alley and K Street but no victims at the scene.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento police arrested a wounded man Saturday after officers investigated gunfire near Firehouse Alley and K Street in Old Sacramento shortly after 2 a.m., officials said.

The case began as a shooting investigation in one of Sacramento’s busiest historic districts. Police said officers found evidence that shots had been fired, but no injured person was located there at first. A short time later, a man with a gunshot wound arrived at a Natomas fire station and was taken to a hospital.

Investigators believe the man was connected to the Old Sacramento shooting. Police said he had an outstanding felony warrant and was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of ammunition. Officials said the gunshot wound was not life-threatening.

Police have not released the man’s name, age or city of residence. They also have not said what led to the gunfire, whether more than one person fired a weapon or whether a firearm was recovered. No other arrests had been announced as of Saturday morning.

The shooting was reported near K Street, a central part of the Old Sacramento Waterfront area known for restaurants, bars, shops and late-night foot traffic. Officers assigned to the area heard multiple gunshots around the same time dispatchers received reports of shots fired, police said.

Officers searched the area and found signs that a shooting had happened. The investigation then shifted after police were told an adult male had gone to a fire station in Natomas with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said investigators later determined the wounded man was “likely involved” in the Old Sacramento shooting. The warrant and ammunition allegation became the first announced criminal actions in the case, while the shooting itself remained under investigation.

The next steps include reviewing evidence from the scene, checking for video from nearby businesses and determining who else may have been involved. Police had not announced a court date, formal charges or additional suspect information by Saturday morning.

The case remained open Saturday, with police still working to determine the full chain of events from Old Sacramento to the Natomas fire station.
