Authorities say a 25-year-old man was arrested after his father was shot Sunday afternoon.
DELAFIELD, Wis. — A 52-year-old man was seriously injured Sunday after authorities say he was shot by his son at a home in the Town of Delafield on Father’s Day. Deputies arrested a 25-year-old man at the scene, and an investigation remains underway.
The shooting happened shortly before 3 p.m. at a residence along McDowell Road near Hickory Hill Drive. Emergency crews responded after receiving reports of gunfire and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital for treatment while deputies secured the property and began collecting evidence.
According to information relayed over emergency dispatch channels, the suspect remained at the residence after the shooting. Dispatchers told responding deputies that the caller reported an argument between father and son before shots were fired. Authorities said the victim was struck three times in the abdomen.
Investigators spent hours processing the scene. Yellow evidence markers were visible near the front entrance of the home while deputies carried bags of evidence from the property. Officials have not released additional details about what led to the confrontation or whether previous calls had been made to the residence.
Neighbors described a sudden and chaotic scene in what is normally a quiet residential area. Sandra Martens, who lives nearby, said family members working outside her home heard yelling followed by several gunshots. She said the sounds drew immediate attention from residents throughout the neighborhood.
Martens said she knew the victim from the community and learned that he had been living at the home with two adult children. One of those children had recently returned to the residence after living elsewhere. Neighbors expressed shock that a violent incident occurred on Father’s Day and in a neighborhood where serious crimes are uncommon.
Dispatch audio indicated the suspect later attempted to help his father by performing bleeding-control measures before deputies arrived. Authorities also reported that the handgun involved had been set on the ground near the front door when law enforcement reached the scene.
Investigators have not announced possible charges, and no court appearances had been scheduled as of Sunday evening. The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department continues to review evidence, interview witnesses and determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
The victim remained hospitalized Sunday night as authorities continued their investigation. Additional information is expected to be released after detectives complete witness interviews and review evidence collected from the scene.
