Deputies said there was no ongoing threat to the public after the deaths.
MIDLAND, Texas — Three employees were found dead Monday morning after a shooting at JAT Partner Logistics in Midland County, sheriff’s officials said, launching a death investigation at a business near East Highway 80.
Deputies responded about 10 a.m. June 22 to the 5400 block of East County Road 80 after a report of shots fired. The Midland County Sheriff’s Office said the victims had apparent gunshot wounds. Officials said the case remained under investigation and that there was no risk to the public.
The shooting drew deputies, investigators and the Midland County Crisis Intervention Unit to the business, which operates near North County Road 1140 and East Highway 80. Sheriff’s officials did not immediately release the names, ages or job titles of the three people killed. They also did not say whether a suspect had been arrested or whether the shooter was among the dead.
“Upon arrival, deputies discovered three deceased subjects with apparent gunshot wounds,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “This investigation is ongoing. However, there is no risk to the public at this time.” The brief statement left several key questions unanswered Monday, including what led to the gunfire and whether the victims were targeted.
Early reports from the scene described the location as a trucking business. Other workers told local media that the gunfire began after a person arrived at the property and that employees were inside for a meeting when shots were fired. Sheriff’s officials had not confirmed those witness accounts by Monday evening.
The deaths came less than two weeks after a separate Midland shooting that killed one person, injured several others and ended with the suspected gunman dead. The latest case unfolded in a different part of the Midland area and was being handled by the Midland County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators are expected to review witness statements, business records, surveillance video and physical evidence from the property. Officials had not announced charges, autopsy findings or a public briefing time as of Tuesday. The victims’ identities were expected to be released after relatives were notified.
By Tuesday, the sheriff’s office had said only that the public was not in danger and that the investigation was continuing. No additional official details had been released.
