Chicago police said the attackers fled in a white SUV after the early Sunday shooting.
CHICAGO, Ill. — A 32-year-old man was shot multiple times and critically wounded early Sunday in River North after robbers approached him in a white SUV, Chicago police said.
The shooting happened about 2:13 a.m. in the 400 block of North LaSalle Drive, near Hubbard and Kinzie streets. Police said the man was walking when someone inside the SUV demanded his property and opened fire. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Police said no other injuries were reported. The suspects left the area in the same white SUV, and detectives had not announced any arrests Sunday morning. Authorities did not release the victim’s name or a detailed description of the people inside the vehicle.
The attack happened in one of Chicago’s busiest nightlife districts, where restaurants, bars and hotels draw large crowds late into the night. The area also has heavy traffic from rideshare vehicles, pedestrians and drivers leaving downtown entertainment spots after closing time.
Area detectives are investigating the robbery and shooting. Police had not said whether any property was taken, how many people were inside the SUV or whether surveillance video had been recovered from nearby buildings.
The man remained hospitalized Sunday as investigators worked to identify the suspects and trace the vehicle. Police said the case remains open.
