18-Year-Old Killed After Dispute Erupts Into Miami-Dade Gunfire

Investigators collected evidence across two streets after the victim was chased through a Princeton-area townhome community, neighbors said.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — An 18-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday night after an argument between two men escalated in a southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred near Southwest 233rd Street and Southwest 132nd Avenue in the Princeton area. Authorities said one of the men involved in the dispute pulled out a gun and shot the other. The wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officials had not released his name as of Saturday.

Information about a suspected gunman was not immediately available. The sheriff’s office also had not disclosed what caused the argument, whether the two men knew each other or whether investigators had recovered a firearm.

Residents described a fast-moving shooting that crossed part of the townhome community. Neighbors said the victim appeared to come from across the street while being pursued and shot at. Those accounts had not been independently confirmed by investigators.

A nearby doorbell camera recorded the sound of repeated gunfire as a package was being delivered. The video did not show the shooting itself, but a resident who asked not to be identified estimated that 19 shots were fired.

“This is scary in any neighborhood,” the resident said. “But to have this happen 100 feet from your house is just another level of stuff.”

Neighbors said the shooter fired while chasing the victim up a driveway. Residents reported finding apparent damage to trees, vehicles and garages, raising concerns that people inside nearby homes or standing outside could also have been struck. Authorities had not released an official count of the shots fired or confirmed the full extent of the property damage.

Video from the neighborhood showed investigators searching the area with flashlights. More than a dozen evidence markers were visible on the ground, with portions of the investigation spread across two streets. Evidence markers can identify possible cartridge casings or other items, but officials had not specified what was collected at the scene.

Additional video showed an ambulance arriving at a hospital and a distressed woman speaking with a deputy nearby. Authorities did not identify the woman or describe her connection to the victim.

The investigation remained active Saturday. The sheriff’s office had not announced an arrest, released a suspect description or provided additional information about the circumstances leading to the fatal encounter.
