Investigators say Ambria Boyd gave them a false name while maintaining ties to a person accused in Jamal Parker’s death.
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — The girlfriend of a 37-year-old Atlanta man whose remains were found in the Dog River Reservoir has become the third person charged with murder in the case, according to Douglas County investigators.
Ambria Boyd was arrested on charges of murder, making false statements and obstruction in connection with the death of Jamal Parker. Authorities had previously charged Brittany Baker and Mario Barber with murder. All three were being held without bond at the Douglas County Jail.
The latest arrest marks a significant expansion of an investigation that began after Parker’s remains were recovered from the reservoir May 15. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified him through DNA comparison June 15, about a month after the discovery.
Investigators said Boyd approached authorities with information that she claimed came from an unknown caller. She provided a name and telephone number that the caller allegedly said belonged to Parker’s killer, according to an account of the investigation.
Authorities determined that the name was false. Investigators also said Boyd was friends with the person they identified as the actual suspect, had been staying at that person’s home and had been with Parker several hours before he was killed.
Officials have not publicly provided a detailed account of what role they believe Boyd played in Parker’s death. The criminal charges are allegations, and no finding of guilt has been made.
Parker’s father, Charles Parker, said the arrest surprised him because Boyd had been communicating with Parker’s mother and appeared deeply affected by his death. He said the family did not know she was suspected of involvement.
“She been corresponding with Jamal’s mom like she didn’t know what was going on,” Charles Parker said.
Asked why Boyd might have given investigators false information, Parker’s father said it appeared she was trying “to protect herself.” He said he wants everyone who participated in his son’s killing held responsible.
Baker and Barber were charged after investigators searched a home on Langdale Chase where authorities said the pair had been living. The search lasted four days and followed the discovery of Parker’s remains in the reservoir.
Investigators have not released a motive or a complete account of the events leading to Parker’s death. Authorities also have not said publicly whether additional charges are being considered against the three defendants.
Charles Parker said detectives told him that more arrests could be made. The investigation remains active, and Boyd, Baker and Barber remained in custody without bond as of the latest available reports.
