Both underwent surgery after an argument that investigators said escalated into gunfire from two residential driveways.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two 19-year-old neighbors were shot multiple times Friday afternoon after an altercation escalated into an exchange of gunfire outside their homes in west Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened in the 5300 block of Tuglow Ravine Lane. Investigators said the two wounded people were taken to a hospital and underwent surgery. Both were expected to survive, the sheriff’s office said.
Detectives were still working to determine what led to the confrontation and how the shooting unfolded. Authorities said the two people live near each other and had been involved in some type of dispute before shots were fired.
The altercation began while the neighbors were in separate vehicles, according to investigators. Both then got out of the vehicles and began shooting at each other from their driveways, the sheriff’s office said.
Officials did not release the identities of either person. The sheriff’s office also did not provide details about the nature of their relationship beyond describing them as neighbors.
Investigators had not publicly identified a motive or said what started the initial disagreement. Authorities also had not disclosed how many shots were fired, what types of firearms were recovered or whether anyone else was nearby during the exchange.
No other injuries were reported in the information released by the sheriff’s office. Officials did not say whether homes, vehicles or other property in the neighborhood were struck by gunfire.
The case remained under investigation. The sheriff’s office had not announced any arrests or criminal charges as of Sunday, and officials did not say whether charges were under consideration for either wounded person.
