Police detained the woman’s husband and said there was no continuing threat to the Fairfax County community.
FAIR OAKS, Va. — A woman was found fatally shot inside a Fairfax County home Sunday night in what police described as a domestic-related incident involving a husband and wife.
Officers responded to a 911 call at about 10:30 p.m. in the 12000 block of Washington Brice Road, according to Fairfax County police. They found the woman inside the residence with apparent gunshot wounds. She died at the scene.
The woman’s husband was detained as detectives began investigating the death, police said. Authorities had not announced any criminal charges as of Monday morning, and they did not release the names of the woman or her husband.
Deputy Chief Brendan Hooke said the husband and wife were the only people believed to have been inside the home when the shooting occurred. Detectives were interviewing the detained man as they worked to establish the sequence of events.
Police said all parties connected to the incident had been accounted for. Investigators did not believe there were any outstanding suspects and said the shooting posed no ongoing threat to nearby residents.
Authorities have not released information about what may have happened before the shooting. They also have not disclosed who called 911, whether a firearm was recovered or whether police had previously responded to the home.
The case remained under investigation Monday. Detectives were continuing to collect evidence and determine whether charges would be filed.
