Krystal Jordan’s relatives remember her lifelong passion for music while calling for justice after her fatal stabbing.
HOUSTON, Texas — The family of Houston rapper Krystal Jordan is preparing a balloon release in her memory as relatives mourn the 28-year-old artist, support her young daughter and call for a more serious charge in the case surrounding her death.
Jordan, who performed under the names Judy World and Play Girl Judy, died after a stabbing Saturday at a home on Bat Sheva Lane in south Houston. Police arrested 28-year-old Kayla Wynita Rodgers at the scene and charged her with manslaughter. The tribute is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, at Crestmont Park.
Jordan’s brother, Travion Walker, described her as an inspiration to people around her and said she had been drawn to music from an early age. He also expressed the family’s appreciation for the messages and support received from Jordan’s fans and members of the Houston community.
Family members said Jordan leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter. Relatives have created an online fundraiser intended to help support the child following her mother’s death. The family has not publicly disclosed further details about the daughter.
Houston police said officers responded to a stabbing call at 11927 Bat Sheva Lane at about 9:55 a.m. July 11. They found a bystander giving first aid to a woman suffering from stab wounds. Paramedics transported Jordan to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said Rodgers was still at the property and was detained without incident. After consulting the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, officers arrested Rodgers in connection with the death. She is charged with manslaughter in the 338th Criminal District Court.
Jordan’s mother, Keia Jordan, told FOX 26 that Rodgers is the sister of Jordan’s boyfriend. She said the family is seeking justice and believes Rodgers should face a murder charge instead of manslaughter. Police have not publicly confirmed the reported family connection or described what led to the stabbing.
The charge against Rodgers is an allegation. Authorities have not released a suspected motive, and no public account has explained the circumstances immediately before the encounter. Rodgers has not been convicted.
The loss has brought attention from people who knew Jordan through her music as well as those close to her personally. Her family’s planned gathering will give relatives, friends and fans an opportunity to remember her life days after the fatal incident.
No additional arrests have been announced. The manslaughter case remains pending as investigators and prosecutors continue reviewing the circumstances of Jordan’s death.
