A maintenance worker and a tenant discovered the victims inside the Park at Woodlake apartment management office Thursday evening.
HOUSTON, Texas — A maintenance employee and a tenant making a routine visit to a west Houston apartment office found two workers fatally shot Thursday, launching a homicide investigation with no publicly identified suspect.
Houston police said the victims were a 47-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman who were believed to work at the Park at Woodlake apartments in the 9500 block of Ella Lee Lane. Authorities had not released their names Friday.
The two were found inside the apartment complex’s management office. Police said a maintenance worker and a resident who had gone to the office to pay rent came upon the victims and alerted authorities.
Officers responded to the property Thursday evening. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and homicide detectives began collecting evidence from the office and surrounding area.
Police said investigators had not found anyone who witnessed the shooting. No one had provided a description of a suspect, leaving detectives with limited publicly known information about who entered the office or what occurred before the victims were discovered.
Authorities said at least one person responsible for the shooting remained at large. Police had not announced a motive, identified a person of interest or said whether there had been any dispute or other disturbance at the apartment complex before the deaths.
The circumstances surrounding the employees’ deaths remain unclear. Investigators have not publicly said how much time may have passed between the shooting and the discovery of the victims or whether surveillance footage or other evidence was available from the property.
The investigation is continuing as Houston police work to determine who killed the two employees and why. No arrests had been announced, and the victims’ identities remained withheld pending further official information.
